Biography

My complete name is Eugenio Javier Garzón Alama. I was born on 20th of August of 1986 in Valencia. I live the outskirts of Valencia, in a town called Paterna. From my window I can see the Science Campus of the University, and I spent my childhood dreaming to study there. Now I'm am an undergraduate physics student in the fourth course.

Scientific Background

I entered in the Faculty of Physics of the University of Valencia in 2004, three years ago, and now I had finished the third course, and the first cycle, and now I'm preparing to start the fourth course next September. I'm interested in particle physic and astronomy.

From particle physics, that works in the study of the elemental "bricks" of the nature (like quarks and neutrinos); mixed with astrophysics, worry about the study of the structure of the universe, born the Astroparticle physics, which work is to explain the big scale aspect and behavior of the Universe studying its microscopic components.

The principal lines of reserch in astroparticle physics are:

• What is the Universe made of?
• Do protons have a finite life-time?
• What are the properties of neutrinos? What is their role in cosmic evolution?
• What do neutrinos tell us about the interior of Sun, Earth and Supernova explosions?
• What is the origin of cosmic rays?
• What is the view of the sky at extreme energies?
• What is the nature of gravity? Can we detect gravitational waves?

That is a new and interested branch of the science that can give answers for the most fundamental questions of the century like the dark matter and dark energy, the accelerated expansion of the Universe, and the early age of the Universe that can explain us how all that we see, galaxies, stars, atoms, and ourself, were created. The truth is out there...or perhaps not far away.

Hobbies

In my free time, I like to do creativity activities like read, listen music, play the guitar or go to the cinema. I play the guitar since I was 12 years old. I have a classical guitar and an electric guitar, a Fender Stratocaster and an amplifier of 25 watts.

I usually read historical novels or science spreading books. In my bedside table it is the last book of Roger Penrose, The road to reality. This book is very complete and treats with and incredible elegance the most interesting topics of the actual (and not so actual) physics and mathematics. One of my interests is philosophy. I like to read philosophers like Nietzsche or Plato. Now I'm reading the Republic of Plato. Two of the quotes of those philosophers are:

I like a lot of music, for example Folk Metal music like Tierra Santa, Mago de Oz, Rhapsody; I like too some very known and excellent groups like Queen, The Beatles, Aerosmith. I listen some classic music too. I like some excellent compositors: Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Vivaldi, Brahms, Bach...
