Our Project

Chiba University iGEM07 team's project is to make a Marimo-ish bacteria. Marimo is a green sphere-shaped algae, which is a popular living organism in Japan as a National Monument. When you come to Japan, you absolutely come across to Marimo in Aquarisms, TV programs or Mangas :)

Fig.1 Japan is full of Marimo. From left to right: Marimo in the lake, Marimoccori, Roronoa Zoro, Marimo Express, Zoomed Marimo Express, Marimo in lake again

Marimo is interesting because of its misterious behavior that becomes sphere by itself. We thought that making bacteria to form a finite shape would be

Design

Our Marimo System include as follows:
- Gather bacteria -- Use Quorum Sensing
- Stick bacteria together -- ?Conbine? flagella and his-tag
- Control the size of Marimo -- Tune Quorum Sensing
