The Judging Committee is currently hard at work putting together the list of this year's awards. Watch for an announcement on the main page and via email when the list is finished.

Medal Categories (for all teams)

Trophies will be available for each of the Track Categories listed below:

  • Bronze -- project description on iGEM wiki, oral presentation and poster at Jamboree
  • Silver -- project description on iGEM wiki, oral presentation and poster at Jamboree, parts sent to Registry
  • Gold -- project description on iGEM wiki, oral presentation and poster at Jamboree, parts sent to Registry, parts descriptions entered in Registry


Tracks Categories (for best of class projects)

  1. Foundational Research -- basic science and engineering research
  2. Information Processing -- genetically encoded control, logic, and memory
  3. Energy -- biological fuels, feedstocks, or other energy projects
  4. Environment -- sensing or remediation of environmental state
  5. Health & Medicine -- applied projects with the goal of directly improving the human condition
  6. Poster
  7. Presentation

Special Awards

  • Best BioBrick Part (sponsored by the BioBricks Foundation) - to the team that makes and describes the best new standard biological part, or class of parts
  • Best Foundational Technology (sponsored by GENEART) - to the team that makes the most important contribution to the foundational technologies enabling synthetic biology (e.g., construction technology, measurement technology, analysis technology, other)
  • Best Model or Simulation (sponsored by The MathWorks) - to the team that makes the best use of modeling, simulation, or any form of mathematical analysis
