Our Project:
Extensible Logic Circuit in Bacteria

Logic Artificial Biologic Circuit (ABC) and logically Integrated Circuit (IC) are both composed by logic gates and wires. Now we are enjoying the advantages of Ultra Large Scale IC (ULSI), but at least till now we cannot implement a somewhat large logic ABC containing several levels of logic gates in real experiments.

Our project is to provide a new method for building up fully extensible logic ABC. We are going to produce biological logic gates such as NAND, NOR, NOT for some biological convenience on which modern logic IC are exactly built. Logic gates are just the basic components of logic IC. Factors considered more important to let IC easily enlarged are size reduction, power and response time of components; tuning components to eliminate interference; calibrating components for interconnection. Cis-acting elements may present smaller scale than trans-acting ones, while the other two factors can be achieved by novelly designed wires and standardization. We will also demonstrate an ABC made by these biological logic gates.

Such ABC may not be large, but the important factors we implement in it will naturally make it fully extensible. IC has existed for 50 years. How huge its impact is on our modern lives! So, what about the biological logic circuits in the next 50 years? A new world is waiting us...
