Hi! I'm a 23 PhD student in BioPhysics ([http://www.nbp.espci.fr/ my lab]).
My background ? A mix of Biology and Physics.
During my BSc of Molecular and Cellular Biology at [http://www.ens-lyon.eu/web/nav/ ENS Lyon], I realized that Biology was too complicated for me. I decided to switch to Physics studies, a subject matter that fits better with my brain...
But I'm not giving up with Biology! I soon discovered Synthetic Biology, a physicist approach to living matter.
I explain : when you are a biologist, most of the time you take a very complex system (a cell for instance) and you :

  • observe (let's put a GFP on gene KKILY123.a)
  • destroy (let's remove KKILY123.a and see what happens)

(OK OK That's not so simplistic...)
On the contrary, Synthetic Biology aims at building part by part simple biological systems, and trying to understand them quantitatively (with statistical physics...).
As soon as I heard about an iGEM team in Paris, I decided to join (well, working during the summer didn't enjoy me but the trip to the US finished to convince myself!).
When I'm not in the lab, I wish I'm rock-climbing or playing music (piano or trumpet in a [http://www.poilobrass.com/ band]).
