Teams are separated into one of several broad categories based on the focus of their project, called tracks, to facilitate the judging process and organization of the Jamboree. The Judging committee has formed the following tracks:
- Foundational Research - basic science and engineering research
- Information Processing - genetically encoded control, logic, and memory
- Energy - biological fuels, feedstocks, and other energy projects
- Environment - sensing or remediation of environmental state
- Health & Medicine - applied projects with the goal of directly improving the human condition
Each track will be assigned to one room for the presentation portion of the Jamboree. All of the teams in each particular track will give their presentations in the assigned room (rooms assignments will be determined at a later date). The Judging committee will be broken down into 3-5 judges per track and will preside over the room that their track has been assigned to. This means that you will be judged against your peers in your designated track by a small subset of the Judging committee. At the end of the posters and presentations, the judges for each track will discuss and choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner for each of the 5 tracks. So, for example, Foundational Research will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies, and so on with each track. Awards for each track will be presented at the beginning of the awards ceremony on Sunday, Nov 4. Then the five (5) 1st place winners will give their presentations again, this time for the whole audience to see. The judges will then reconvene to decide on the iGEM 2007 Jamboree Grand Prize winner.
Each team has already been assigned to a track by the Judging committee. If you think that you belong in a different track, please send an email to iGEM [AT] mit [dot] edu with the subject "Tracks" by Friday Oct 26 at 12:00pm EST. See which track your team has been assigned to by looking for your team in one of the lists below.
