iGEM, the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition, is a really cool undergraduate competition that promotes Synthetic Biology through the use of standard interchangeable biological parts. At the beginning of the summer we get a DNA kit containing every part in the Registry of Standard Biological parts and then we use that DNA over the summer to create our own biological systems! At the end of the summer everyone who competed gets together for the Jamboree in November. The Jamboree this year was so much fun! You can browse through all the team presentations and posters HERE. You can even watch the video of the presentations, and see some of this years interesting ideas.

You should check out igem.org to find out all about iGEM. Sign up for the mailing list and the folks at iGEM HQ will keep you updated on what's going for next year's competition - whether you want to start a team or become involved with the competition in other ways like becoming a volunteer.

P.S.- Take a look at all the cool pictures from this year's Jamboree HERE!
