From 2007.igem.org

1. A, B, and C chains of insulin formed proinsulin.
Proinsulin is folded with disulfide linkages at endoplasmic reticulum of pancrease beta cell.
With in the Golgi and the secretory granule, converting enzymes cleave off the C chain and complete the synthesisi of insulin.
2. Pancrease beta cell use Glut-2 (glucose transporter 2) to detect the plasma glucose level.

3. Target cell of insulin, muscle cell and adipocyte, use Glut-4 which is stimulate by insulin signal to transport glocose into the cells.

4. Insulin binds to it's target cell by a insulin receptor, which includes a function of tyrosine kinase and further transport the Glut-4 to express
     on the mambrane.
