Chris French
I am a supervisor of the University of Edinburgh iGEM2007 team. I am in the School of Biological Sciences. My research is concerned with the use of genetically modified microorganisms for industrial applications such as biotransformations, bioremediation and biosensors. My students are working on:
- magnetite biosynthesis in magnetotactic bacteria
- cellulose degradation in aerobic bacteria
- biosensors for arsenic and other heavy metals
- biofilm formation in symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria
I am also interested in:
- degradation of thiocyanate and related compounds (application in biomining for precious metals)
- hemerythrins and other metal binding proteins in prokaryotes
