I am Hicela Mosquera, Biologist of Universidad Tecnològica del Chocò (UTCH), Colombia, currently I start my Ph.D program in Universidad Politecnica de Valencia in Food Technology.

In Colombia I was working in biotechnology about mushrooms culture (mycelium and blanches) in the laboratory of Clean Production and Agroindustry of the UTCH, it is because I has been acquired experience in a lab. Now in Valencia I am working about of obtaining of natural ingredients starting from tropical fruits, specifically powdered.

Starting from the last year was attending meetings and seminars organized by this group related with the Synthetic Biology, with that which I felt deeply motivated and I have begun this way now my participation in the iGEM Valencia Team 2007. I think this is an interesting discipline that offers many alternatives to solve problems of our daily life and it can also be integrated efficiently in multiple matters.

I think that in the World exist many ways of thinking, but after all in science everybody wants to reach the same end, that is to find an answer to a query and that this answer can be useful for all humanity…Thus we look for the best way to achieve it…we should find the manner to integrate our background and current knowledge in order to innovate and generate new knowledge …Could this be considered as synthetic biology?... People have been doing it for the last years…and we can see that it works…!!!!
